Social Media Wasn’t The Answer

I started using Instagram a long time ago to build my community and gain an audience for my shop, business, and blog. In the end, social media was not the solution. I gained very little in terms of building my business and reaching a wider audience. I would create polls on Instagram, but no one would answer. I would post reels with trending audio, but I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t attract an audience. Others were becoming popular, while I felt stuck on what to do on social media.

Originally, I was only going to post this on Good Omens on my website, but I thought that people needed to read this and relate to this post. So, if you’re here, welcome.

When I host my Notion Templates on the Notion Template Gallery, that’s where I gain an audience. An audience that brings me income, reads my blogs, appreciates my work, and changes my life.

Now, I regret starting on social media when there are other ways to be a creator. There’s Substack, and what mostly brings me an audience is Notion. I wish I could quit social media so that I could stop overthinking about what to post. Because when you post something truly authentic, when authenticity is the game, somehow it never attracts an audience.

When it comes to posting study tips, the only thing that people seem to care about is aesthetics. Other than that, my posts flop. It’s quite frustrating because I wanted my posts to go viral and attract a good audience, so I could build a community. I feel so helpless about failing on social media.

If I had known earlier that there was another solution, I wouldn’t have wasted my time opening a social media account.

Don’t get me wrong. Social media is one of the best places to gain an audience, but it’s not the only way. When you’re just starting out like me, there are many other things that can help you gain more audience and income in your business.

I’m not saying that social media is bad. No. I still have my Instagram account where I give study tips, but it’s too common. If I join the bandwagon, it feels inauthentic for me to give students advice when there are better, more detailed things out there. As a content creator, I feel guilty about not voicing something.

Finding the right platform and the right audience is the formula for having a successful business. It’s where your business will stand strong, thanks to the foundation you’ve built. When starting a business, it’s important to go where the people are: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Substack, Medium, or platforms like Notion. This way, you can gain an audience and make yourself known to people.

It’s like saying hi and hello to people you haven’t met before in an entirely new situation where you are just a novice about something.

Later on, you’ll get to know the people and gain insight into what they want and value. That’s how you build a good audience.

Social media is good and can help you with your endeavours, but when you abuse its use, things can go bad. I feel like this is an entirely different blog for an entirely different time.
